Jazz Up That Winter Landscape This Season

Here Are 4 Simple Additions to Increase Curb Appeal

Winter landscapes don’t need to be boring and dull. Sure, December often means your garden foliage and colorful blooms have gone dormant, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. In fact, there are plenty of ways to add excitement and even color to your winter landscape. You just need to think outside the box. At Castle Point Landscape Design, that’s exactly what we do when it comes to adding some spark to your outdoor space. If you’re looking for ideas to liven up your landscape, search no more. Here are four bright tips for keeping that color and curb appeal alive and well during the winter months.

1. Add window boxes.

Window boxes are a great addition to any home. In wintertime, you can plant ornamental grasses, mini evergreens or even edible plants such as flowering kale (which is purple) to add a pinch of color. If window boxes aren’t your style, colored pots and planters that can brave the elements will work well and can add beautiful hues. Hearty vegetation or winter-friendly plants (cyclamen or camellia are good options) can easily be planted in outdoor pots, too.

2. Consider evergreens.

Evergreens are the perfect selection for jazzing up that boring landscape. These conifers offer blue or green needles and can add just the right amount of color to a lackluster winter scene. Have a small property? No problem. Dwarf versions of these needled beauties are an option. Call our team with any questions on planting, and we’d be happy to help!

3. Think red.

Adding some red patches to your garden is another great idea. Some winter plants produce berries that last quite a while. Good choices include crabapple trees and a variety of hollies that deliver red berries such as winterberry, coral berry and the “Winter King” hawthorn.

4. Add some extra lighting.

Landscape lighting can add serenity, beauty and security to your property. Our team at Castle Point has a great deal of experience installing all types of lighting, including low-voltage, spotlights, walkway illumination, uplighting, highlighting, accent lighting, shadowing and more. With the days getting darker and darker during this time of year, lighting is one of the brightest solutions you can choose for outdoor flair.
